    Meet Carlos

A calm, considered approach to therapy, grounded in over 40 years of medical and human experience.

    My journey to psychotherapy

Hello, I'm Carlos, a psychotherapist and counsellor with more than 40 years' experience in medical and related fields. I bring an intuitive, adaptable and empathetic approach to therapy that's attentive to other people's deeper stories and helps them navigate changes in their lives.

I've navigated many changes in my own life – from moving countries to changing careers, starting businesses and reinventing myself many times over. So I understand the thoughts and emotions that can arise when we're at a crossroads, including uncertainty, anxiety, and fear of the unknown.

My experience of finding my own way gives me the skills to guide you in finding yours.

A foundation of experience and exploration

I worked as a doctor – specialising in dermatology – for many decades, including helping set up the largest dermatology surgery training facility in the Southern Hemisphere.

I've also worked at a leading Australian medical research institute, and taught medical students at Sydney University.

I've undertaken training in a range of modalities including dermatology, psychosomatic treatment, homeopathy, acupuncture, yoga, family constellations, and narrative therapy.

I also lived and became a staff member at the world-renowned Esalen Institute in California. Besides the unique experience of living in a community and meeting leading teachers from the Human Development Movement, I had access to numerous in-house trainings and workshops in Gestalt therapy, Cranio-sacral bodywork, among many other approaches and different modalities of therapy treatment.

Living at Esalen and Exploring Modalities

I am a Trauma informed practitioner who uses evidence based modalities to support your process of recovery and finding a more meaningful and freer life. I have a particular sensitivity to other people's experiences of trauma, and a capacity to be present with their story and emotions. My personal life experiences include one side of my family who escaped genocide and war to start their lives over in a whole new culture and country, growing up in Brazil when it was ruled by a repressive military dictatorship, as well as my own life experiences on this topic.
